Nigeria’s Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers has expressed deep frustration after being ruled out of the remainder of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations due to injury.

The Panathinaikos forward sustained the injury while on national duty in Morocco and subsequently left the Super Eagles camp last week after medical assessments confirmed he would be unable to continue in the tournament.

Reacting to the setback, Dessers admitted it was a difficult situation to come to terms with, especially given the importance of both the AFCON and the ongoing club season.

“Unfortunately I sustained an injury at AFCON. It’s extremely difficult to accept that I will miss the remainder of the tournament and an important period at Panathinaikos,” the striker wrote.

Despite his absence, the 30-year-old reiterated his support for the Super Eagles, assuring fans and teammates of his commitment to recovery and future contributions.

“I will be our biggest fan in these weeks, go full in rehab and hopefully we can celebrate a win and goal together soon,” he added.

Dessers’ injury is a significant blow to Nigeria’s attacking options as the Super Eagles continue their campaign in Morocco, while Panathinaikos will also monitor his recovery ahead of the crucial phase of their season.
