The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed the international switch of allegiance of goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo from England to Nigeria,

The 22-year-old shot-stopper, who currently plays for Wrexham, received approval from FIFA to represent the Super Eagles last December, making him eligible for selection by the Nigerian national team.

Reacting to the development, NFF Director of Communications, Dr. Ademola Olajire, expressed satisfaction at Okonkwo’s decision, noting that it further strengthens the options available to the national team’s technical crew.

“The NFF is always excited to have another good player committing to Nigeria and providing an option in a particular position,” Olajire told ESPN.

“Arthur Okonkwo is a prospect and we believe the technical crew is delighted to have another option in the goalkeeping department.”

Okonkwo, who came through the youth system in England, has been in impressive form at club level, and his inclusion is expected to boost competition among the Super Eagles goalkeepers ahead of future international engagements.
