The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a significant increase in the prize money for the winner of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), raising it from $7 million to $10 million.

CAF President, Dr Patrice Motsepe, confirmed the development during a press conference held on Saturday.

According to Motsepe, the increase is part of CAF’s broader strategy to enhance the value, competitiveness and global appeal of African football.

He stated that the decision reflects CAF’s commitment to reinvesting in the game, rewarding excellence, and ensuring that national teams benefit more substantially from success at the continent’s flagship tournament.
The revised prize structure is expected to further motivate participating nations and elevate the standard of competition at future AFCON tournaments, while also aligning the competition more closely with global benchmarks.
The Africa Cup of Nations remains Africa’s biggest football event, attracting millions of viewers worldwide and serving as a major platform for showcasing the continent’s football talent.
