Besiktas midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is on the verge of being named the new captain of Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

The development follows the official retirement of Ahmed Musa, who had been wearing the captain’s armband, announced on Wednesday. Stand-in captain William Troost-Ekong had earlier stepped aside from the role last month, creating a vacancy in the team’s leadership structure.

As the Super Eagles continue preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations scheduled to take place in Morocco, the technical crew led by head coach Eric Chelle has reportedly concluded arrangements to hand over the captaincy to Ndidi.

The experienced midfielder, widely admired for his work rate, discipline, and leadership qualities, is expected to provide stability and direction to the national team as they build towards the continental showpiece.
