FIFA has officially approved the allocation of slots for the men’s football competition at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
The world football governing body confirmed that a total of 16 teams will participate in the tournament, in line with the traditional Olympic men’s football format.
Under the approved allocation, Africa (CAF) will be represented by two teams, while Asia will also have two slots. Europe has been handed the highest number of places with three teams.
South America will field two teams, while CONCACAF has been allocated one slot. Oceania will be represented by one team as well.
In addition, the host nation, the United States, has been granted an automatic slot to compete in the tournament.
Qualification tournaments across the various confederations are expected to determine the teams that will secure their places at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, with further details on the qualification pathways to be communicated by FIFA in due course.
