Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare scored his first Premier League goal for Wolverhampton Wanderers, but it was not enough to prevent a narrow 2–1 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

The 25-year-old made a decisive impact late in the contest, rising highest in the 90th minute to head past Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya and draw Wolves level. His goal came after Mateus Mané delivered a pinpoint cross into the penalty area, with Arokodare’s powerful header sending the visiting supporters into celebration.

Arsenal had earlier taken the lead in unusual circumstances, with Wolves goalkeeper Sam Johnstone turning the ball into his own net to hand the Gunners the advantage.

Just as Wolves appeared to have salvaged a valuable point, heartbreak followed in stoppage time. Defender Yerson Mosquera inadvertently headed Bukayo Saka’s cross into his own net in the 94th minute, sealing a dramatic late victory for Arsenal.

Despite the defeat, Arokodare’s maiden Premier League goal represents a significant milestone for the Nigerian forward as he continues to settle into English top-flight football.
