Werder Bremen have confirmed that Nigeria international Victor Boniface will miss the club’s final home match of the year against VfB Stuttgart after picking up a knee injury.

Head coach Horst Steffen revealed that the striker suffered the setback during a challenge in training, describing it as a “knee-to-knee” collision that has not healed as quickly as expected.

“It happened in a challenge, knee to knee, and it really hurt,” Steffen told the club’s official website. “Unfortunately, the recovery hasn’t been as quick as we’d hoped. I can’t yet say whether he’ll be available for us again this year.”

The injury presents another frustrating blow for Boniface, who has endured an inconsistent campaign following his summer loan move from Bayer Leverkusen.

The 24-year-old has made 11 Bundesliga appearances for the Green and Whites this season, contributing two assists.

His absence comes at a crucial period for Bremen as they look to stabilise their campaign heading into the winter break.
