Queens Park Rangers are set to auction the only jersey ever made for Nigerian forward Peter Odemwingie ahead of his infamous failed transfer from West Bromwich Albion in January 2013.

Odemwingie had believed he was on the verge of sealing a deadline-day move to QPR and even arrived at Loftus Road expecting to complete the deal. However, the transfer collapsed after both clubs maintained that no fee had been agreed.

According to Sky Sports, the jersey prepared in advance of the anticipated move was put up for auction on Wednesday. The shirt, customized with Odemwingie’s name and number, had been produced by QPR’s head of retail, Francis Atkinson.

The item now stands as a rare collector’s piece and a lasting reminder of one of the Premier League’s most memorable and controversial transfer sagas.
