Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) president Samuel Eto’o has once again made headlines after boldly describing himself as a “professor of football,” as he defended his leadership and experience in the sport.
The former Barcelona and Inter Milan striker retained his position as head of FECAFOOT last week, despite facing several challenges and criticism during his first term in office.
Speaking during a recent media engagement, Eto’o responded to questions about his academic background and administrative style by highlighting his practical experience in football and his achievements since taking charge of Cameroonian football.
“I am a professor of football,” Eto’o said. “There are people with 50 university degrees who managed our football administration while owing over eight months of unpaid salaries. But in my four years, I have never missed a single month. It’s not an insult to say that I didn’t do advanced studies. I studied sports, I am a professor of football.”
Eto’o, one of Africa’s most decorated footballers, insisted that his leadership has brought more financial discipline and accountability to FECAFOOT, stressing that his experience on the pitch and in football management gives him the authority to guide the sport in Cameroon.
His comments have sparked fresh debate across the Cameroonian football community, with supporters praising his reforms while critics continue to question some of his administrative decisions.
