Nigeria’s Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka has shared his experience playing in both the German Bundesliga and the English Premier League, drawing comparisons between the two top European leagues.
Onyeka spent last season on loan at Bundesliga side Augsburg from Brentford FC, where he gained valuable playing time before returning to the Community Stadium for the current campaign. Since his return, the powerful midfielder has featured intermittently for the Bees as he continues to fight for a regular starting place.
Speaking in Brentford’s matchday programme, Onyeka admitted that the German league has a unique intensity that stands out even compared to the physically demanding Premier League.
> “People often say that in the Bundesliga, players run a lot compared to the Premier League. When I got there, I felt it. They always want to go forward with every ball,” he explained.
The 26-year-old highlighted that the constant attacking transitions in Germany make the league extremely fast-paced, unlike the more tactical and structured nature of the Premier League.
Onyeka will be hoping to cement his place in Thomas Frank’s squad as the season progresses and continue showcasing his versatility for both club and country.
