Rivers United head coach Finidi George has expressed confidence in his team’s readiness ahead of their crucial CAF Champions League group stage clash against Moroccan giants RS Berkane on Friday.

The Pride of Rivers suffered a disappointing 3-0 defeat to FC Pyramids in Cairo during their opening Group B fixture last week. However, Finidi believes the setback has strengthened the team’s resolve as they prepare to host the two-time CAF Confederation Cup champions at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.

Speaking during Thursday’s pre-match press conference, the former Super Eagles manager emphasized that the team has learned from their mistakes in Egypt and is fully focused on bouncing back.

“Our focus is on the game against Berkane tomorrow (Friday). We’ve made our enquiries on them,” Finidi said.
“We have all the support needed to maintain high intensity and secure the maximum points.”

He admitted that Rivers United expect a tough opponent, but stressed that the lessons from the opening defeat will guide their approach.

“It’s going to be a difficult game. The match we played in Cairo taught us so much, and we do not want to repeat the same mistakes again,” he stated.

“We have learned our lesson and we are working hard to get a positive result.”

The match is scheduled for Friday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, where Rivers United will be hoping to claim their first points of the campaign and revive their qualification hopes.
