Crystal Palace manager Olivier Glasner has explained why Nigeria’s Super Eagles midfielder Chrisantus Uche has struggled to secure a regular place in the Premier League team since his arrival in the summer.
Uche joined the Eagles from Spanish La Liga side Getafe late in the transfer window, but has found playing time limited as he continues to adapt to his new environment and teammates.
Speaking ahead of Palace’s UEFA Europa Conference League clash against Strasbourg, Glasner disclosed that the midfielder’s late arrival and absence during pre-season preparations have affected his integration into the squad.
“I told him (Uche), ‘You arrived on deadline day without pre-season to a team that was at that time 19 games unbeaten, so you can’t expect to be starter immediately,’” Glasner stated.
The Austrian tactician, however, expressed confidence in the Nigerian’s potential, noting that Uche is working hard in training and is expected to become more involved as the season progresses.
Despite the limited minutes so far, the Super Eagles hopeful remains an important part of Palace’s long-term plans, with the manager encouraging him to continue pushing for a starting spot.
Crystal Palace will be hoping to extend their strong form in Europe as they face Strasbourg in their next Conference League fixture.
