Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi could be on his way back to the German Bundesliga, with Werder Bremen reportedly keen on securing his services when the transfer window opens in January.

Awoniyi, who previously enjoyed successful spells in Germany with Union Berlin and Mainz, has endured a frustrating season at Forest.

The arrival of Brazilian forward Igor Jesus has limited his opportunities, pushing him behind both Jesus and Chris Wood in the attacking hierarchy.

The 28-year-old has made only four Premier League appearances for the Tricky Trees so far this season, prompting discussions about an exit in search of regular playing time.

According to reports from Africafoot, Werder Bremen are eager to bring Awoniyi back to the Bundesliga and are preparing a move once the transfer window opens. Nottingham Forest are said to be open to letting him leave, provided a suitable offer is submitted.

Aside from Bremen’s interest, two Premier League clubs and several Championship sides are also reportedly monitoring the situation, setting up a potential transfer battle for his signature.

Awoniyi joined Nottingham Forest in 2022 and played a crucial role in helping the club retain Premier League status last season, but the current campaign has presented limited opportunities for the powerful striker.

A return to Germany could provide the fresh start he needs as he aims to revive his career and maintain his place with the Nigerian national team.
