Nigeria will lock horns with DR Congo on Sunday in Rabat in a decisive CAF World Cup play-off final, where victory will send one nation into the FIFA Inter-Continental Play-Off in March the final gateway to securing a place at the FIFA World Cup 2026.

The Super Eagles head into the clash full of confidence after their dramatic 4–1 extra-time triumph over Gabon. Nigeria conceded a late equaliser at the end of regulation time, but responded in ruthless fashion as Chidera Ejuke restored the lead early in extra time before Victor Osimhen fired home a stunning brace, adding to Akor Adams’ opener.

The three-time African champions now stand just 90 minutes from reaching the crucial inter-continental decider that could deliver Africa’s 10th ticket to the global showpiece.

DR Congo booked their spot with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Cameroon, secured through captain Chancel Mbemba’s stoppage-time strike from a Cipenga corner, capping a disciplined defensive performance.

Sunday’s final promises a fascinating tactical battle: Nigeria’s explosive pace and penalty-area efficiency  spearheaded by Osimhen and anchored by Wilfred Ndidi’s progressive play  against a well-organised Leopards side that thrives on structure, resilience and set-piece precision.

Everything is now on the line, and only one nation will keep their World Cup dream alive.
