Newly appointed Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche has explained what Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi needs to rediscover his goal-scoring form.
Speaking to Nottinghamshire Live, Dyche noted that Awoniyi brings a different style to Forest’s attack compared to other forwards in the squad.
“Igor (Jesus) was obviously suspended, and we’ve got three players Taiwo Awoniyi, Omari Hutchinson, and Jair Cunha who are not part of the Europa League group. That’s already a challenge,” the former Everton boss said.
“Taiwo is slightly different. He’s been around a bit longer. He can hold the ball up and get into the box, but you have to provide quality service into the box.”
Dyche went on to stress the importance of delivering better crosses to create scoring chances.
“That was one thing I questioned heavily about the Bournemouth game we hardly put any crosses in. We got into great areas to cross but didn’t take advantage,” he added.
“We put a ball into the right area against Porto and earned a penalty. It’s not always about clean finishes; sometimes the scruffy goals count too.”
