Flamingos head coach, Bankole Olowookeere, has expressed disappointment following Nigeria’s heavy 4-0 defeat to Italy on Tuesday evening at the ongoing U17 Women’s World Cup.

Speaking after the game, the coach admitted that the loss was painful but emphasized that the experience gained by his players would be invaluable for their future development.

“Honestly, it’s quite painful,” Olowookeere said. “We came into the game with the mindset of doing something special—winning and progressing to the next stage.”

“Unfortunately, we held the game for 44 minutes before conceding a painful goal, and things fell apart in the second half. It’s one of those moments in football.”

Despite the setback, he remained optimistic about the team’s future.

“The players have gained a lot of experience. Coming to the World Cup, playing against top nations and quality players these experiences will go a long way in shaping their careers and helping them become superstars in the future,” he concluded.
