Nigeria’s Super Falcons took a major step towards securing qualification for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco with a comfortable 2-0 victory over the Benin Republic in Lome.

The Nigerian ladies showed their dominance right from the blast of the whistle and were rewarded when Chiwendu Ihezuo opened the scoring midway through the first half. Esther Okoronkwo doubled the lead before the break to seal a deserved win for the nine-time African champions.

With the result, the Super Falcons hold a strong advantage ahead of the return leg, which will be played at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta on Tuesday.

The aggregate winner over the two legs will secure a place in the 2026 WAFCON finals in Morocco.
