After suffering back-to-back defeats at the ongoing U17 Women’s World Cup, Flamingos head coach Bankole Olowookeere has opened up on the team’s plans moving forward.

Nigeria fell 1-0 to France on Wednesday, their second loss of the tournament, leaving them with a slim chance of advancing. The Flamingos must now secure a big win against Samoa in their final group game to stand any chance of progressing as one of the best third-placed teams.

Reflecting on the defeat, Olowookeere expressed mixed emotions but noted an improvement in performance.

“The game against France was much better than the one against Canada,” he said.
“If we had shown the same kind of fight in that first game, I don’t think we’d be in the situation we are now. It was really unfortunate to concede that late goal  painful and heartbreaking.”

The coach added that the team remains focused and determined to fight until the end.

“We’ll keep working hard and see if we can get something positive from the last game to stay in the tournament.”
