South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns delivered a dominant performance to crush Nigeria’s Remo Stars 5–1 in the first leg of their CAF Champions League Second Preliminary Round clash on Sunday.

The match, played at the M.K.O. Abiola International Stadium in Abeokuta, saw the visitors stamp their authority from start to finish, showcasing the class and composure that have made them one of Africa’s most formidable sides.

Tashreeq Matthews opened the scoring in the 12th minute, setting the tone for a one-sided affair. Peter Shalulile doubled the lead in the 41st minute to give the South Africans a comfortable cushion before halftime.

After the break, the Brazilians continued their ruthless display as Reisinho (61’), Arthur Sales (75’), and Tsiki Ntsabeleng (85’) all found the back of the net.

Remo Stars managed to grab a consolation goal late in the game but were largely second best throughout the encounter.

With a four-goal deficit, the Nigerian side faces a monumental task when they travel to Pretoria for the return leg, where Sundowns will be firm favorites to advance to the group stage of the competition.
