Liverpool’s title hopes suffered another setback on Sunday as they fell 2–1 to arch-rivals Manchester United at Anfield, leaving them four points adrift of Premier League leaders Arsenal.

Coming into the game on the back of three straight defeats, the Reds were desperate for a response but were stunned early when Amad Diallo set up Bryan Mbeumo to open the scoring inside the first minute.

Liverpool leveled after the break through Cody Gakpo, who finished off Federico Chiesa’s precise pass. However, United had the final say, as captain Harry Maguire rose highest to nod home a late winner for Ruben Amorim’s side.

The result lifts Manchester United to ninth place with 13 points, while Liverpool remain fourth on 15 points now trailing Arsenal by four.
