The Indonesian Football Association has announced the dismissal of Dutch coach Patrick Kluivert following the national team’s failure to progress in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Kluivert, who was appointed in January 2025 on a two-year contract, saw his tenure cut short after a string of disappointing results that ended Indonesia’s qualification hopes.

Back-to-back defeats  3-2 to Saudi Arabia and 1-0 to Iran  sealed their fate, leaving the Garuda squad out of contention for a playoff spot.

Despite a promising start under the former Barcelona striker, Indonesia’s inconsistency and inability to convert good performances into results led to growing pressure on the coach.

The Indonesian FA, in a brief statement, thanked Kluivert for his service and wished him well in his future endeavors, while confirming that plans are underway to appoint a new head coach ahead of upcoming Asian Cup qualifiers.
