Nigeria’s Super Eagles ended their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign on a high note with a 4-0 victory over the Cheetahs of Benin Republic, but it wasn’t enough to secure automatic qualification.

Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen was the star of the night, delivering a sensational hat-trick to give Nigeria all three points.

The energetic forward struck twice in the first half to give the Super Eagles control of the game before completing his treble shortly after the restart.

Frank Onyeka netted the 4th goal for Nigeria to make a comprehensive victory for the 3-tim African champions.

Despite the dominant display and Osimhen’s brilliance, results elsewhere meant that Nigeria finished second in the group missing out on direct qualification for the World Cup.

The team will now have to navigate the playoff route in hopes of booking their ticket to the global showpiece.

Osimhen’s performance, however, reaffirmed his status as one of Africa’s top strikers, with fans praising his determination and finishing prowess in what was a bittersweet evening for the Super Eagles.

South Africa qualified from the group after their 3-0 win over Rwanda.
