Freiburg shot-stopper Noah Atubolu appears to have committed his international future to Germany after receiving a call-up from the German Football Association for their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The 23-year-old, who has consistently impressed for Freiburg in the Bundesliga, has long been on the radar of Nigeria’s Super Eagles coaches due to his Nigerian parentage.
Born in Germany to Nigerian parents, Atubolu has represented the country at various youth levels, including the U21s. Although FIFA eligibility rules would still allow him to switch allegiance to Nigeria, his latest senior team invitation from Germany could permanently end that possibility.
Atubolu’s call-up comes as a replacement for Oliver Baumann, who was ruled out of the qualifiers due to illness.
