Italian Serie A outfit Atalanta have tabled a new and improved contract for Nigeria international Ademola Lookman, despite tensions that arose between both parties during the last summer transfer window.

According to reports from Tuttomercatoweb, the club’s co-owner, Stephen Pagliuca, is set to spearhead negotiations aimed at securing the winger’s long-term future in Bergamo.

The proposed deal will not alter the current expiration date of June 2027 but will see Lookman’s wages significantly increased. In addition, Atalanta are expected to insert a €40 million release clause, reflecting the forward’s growing value after an impressive stint in Italy.

Lookman, has been a key figure for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side since arriving from RB Leipzig in 2022.

The Super Eagles star scored several decisive goals last season, helping Atalanta to a strong league campaign and earning plaudits for his creativity and clinical finishing.

The club view him as a central piece of their project and are eager to reward his performances while protecting their asset against potential suitors in the upcoming transfer windows.

Negotiations are expected to commence in the coming weeks, with both parties optimistic that an agreement will be reached quickly, ensuring Lookman remains at the Gewiss Stadium for the foreseeable future.
