The coach of the senior national team of South African Bafana Banana, Hugo Broos has said that Group C of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers is a tricky Group, unpredictable, and should not be underrated.
The group comprises Lesotho, Rwanda, Benin, South Africa, Nigeria, and Zimbabwe.
The 72-year-old Belgian tactician made this known while fielding questions at the post press conference in the third World Cup qualifier game between Nigeria and his side at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
“The Group is not a group of top countries but it’s a tricky Group. And you see now after three games, you see the results. This was also the biggest change for me in Afcon,” Broos said.
“The little countries like we name them, they progressed a lot. As you saw also in Afcon with teams that progressed to the 2nd and 3rd round.”
South Africa’s Themba Zwane scored in the 29th minute, giving the visitors a lead at the end of the first half.
Fisayo Dele-Bashiru made it one-all with a 46th minute strike to level the game.
With this result, Lesotho tops the group with five points from 3 matches. Rwanda, Benin, and South Africa follow closely with 4 points each in second place, while Nigeria has 3 points and Zimbabwe has 2 points.
