Scotland-based striker Uchechukwu Ikpeazu has officially pledged his international allegiance to Uganda, turning down the chance to represent Nigeria.
The powerful forward, who currently plies his trade in the Scottish Premiership, was born in London to a Nigerian father and Ugandan mother. For years, Ikpeazu had been on the radar of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), with strong intentions initially to represent the Super Eagles at senior level.
However, after several rounds of deliberations and persistent pressure from the Ugandan FA, the lanky attacker has now opted to play for the Cranes.
His decision was made public following confirmation that he has been included in Uganda’s squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Ikpeazu, known for his strength, aerial presence, and physical style of play, is expected to add firepower to Uganda’s frontline as they prepare for a crucial set of qualifying fixtures.
Reports suggest that the lack of serious consideration from the Super Eagles’ technical crew influenced his decision to commit to Uganda, who have shown consistent interest and faith in his ability to deliver at international level.
With this move, Nigeria misses out on another eligible talent, while Uganda secures the services of an experienced striker who has played across England and Scotland.
Ikpeazu is now set to make his competitive debut in the coming weeks as Uganda continues their quest to reach the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
