Nigeria’s Super Eagles will face Gabon in the semi-finals of the African section of the 2026 FIFA World Cup play-offs, following the conclusion of the qualifying group stage on Tuesday.
The Super Eagles secured their spot with an emphatic 4–0 victory over Benin earlier in the day, while Gabon claimed second place in Group F after defeating Burundi 2–0, aided by Ivory Coast’s triumph over Kenya to top the group.
Elsewhere, DR Congo booked their ticket with a hard-fought 1–0 win against Sudan to finish as runners-up in Group B behind Senegal. Cameroon also advanced after finishing second in Group D behind Cape Verde.
The play-offs, featuring the four best runners-up from the nine African qualifying groups, will be held in Morocco from November 13 to 16.
Nigeria will take on Gabon in one semi-final, while Cameroon will clash with DR Congo in the other. Both matches are scheduled for November 13, with the winners meeting three days later in a one-leg final.
The overall winner will progress to the inter-confederation play-offs in March 2026, where they will compete for a place at the World Cup finals in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
