The Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Austine Eguavoen, has commended Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle for his tactical setup in Friday night’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda.
Eguavoen particularly praised Chelle’s formation in the opening minutes, noting that he was impressed by the decision to deploy Samuel Chukwueze behind two forwards.
He emphasized that the AC Milan winger is not only an attacking threat but also capable defensively.
Victor Osimhen’s brace sealed a crucial victory for Nigeria in Kigali, earning them all three points.
Chelle’s team will now turn their attention to their next fixture against Zimbabwe in Uyo on Tuesday.
“I liked what I saw, especially how they started the game with a setup that had Samuel Chukwueze playing behind the two forwards, Victor Osimhen and Moses Simon. It didn’t surprise me because I know Chukwueze has the ability to play that role,” Eguavoen told Canada-based Nigerian journalist Wale Ajayi.
“The important thing is that we got the win. Now, we must focus on the next match against Zimbabwe, particularly after South Africa’s 2-0 victory over Lesotho. We need to stay grounded and not get carried away by this result in Kigali.”
Eguavoen previously served as the interim head coach of the Super Eagles.
