Cameroon basketball star Joelly Belleka has shared her thoughts on their heavy loss to Nigeria in the ongoing Women’s Afrobasket Championship.
On Thursday night, defending champions D’Tigresses advanced to the semi-finals after defeating Cameroon 83-47 in Cote d’Ivoire, keeping their title defense alive.
Speaking after the game, Belleka acknowledged Nigeria’s quality and promised that her team would keep improving.
“Nigeria is a great team. They have four or five Olympians, and they play smart basketball. It was tough,” Belleka told FIBA.
“I’m upset because we wanted to make history for Cameroon basketball. It’s okay, though. Maybe it’s not our turn, but we’ll keep working for future Afrobaskets and come back stronger.”
Nigeria will face 11-time champions Senegal in the semi-finals on Saturday, August 2, while Mali will take on South Sudan in the other last-four clash.
