The Super Eagles of Nigeria have secured a place in the Round of 16 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco after surviving a late scare to defeat Tunisia 3-2 in Fez.
Nigeria seized control of the encounter from the opening whistle, imposing their rhythm on the Carthage Eagles with confident and aggressive play.
Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen opened the scoring in the first half, giving the Super Eagles a deserved lead at the break.
Captain Wilfred Ndidi doubled Nigeria’s advantage early in the second half, further asserting their dominance. Ademola Lookman then added a third goal, appearing to put the contest beyond Tunisia’s reach.
However, the North Africans mounted a late comeback. Tunisia pulled one back from a corner kick before Abdi converted from the penalty spot to reduce the deficit to 3-2, setting up a tense finale.
Despite the late pressure, the Super Eagles held on to secure all three points and confirm their progression to the knockout stage.
With the victory, Nigeria become the second team to qualify for the Round of 16 at AFCON 2025, following Egypt.
