Nigeria’s Super Eagles have pocketed N3.56 billion in prize money after finishing third at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, following a dramatic 4–2 penalty shootout victory over Egypt in the bronze medal match in Casablanca.

The encounter ended goalless after regulation time, with goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali emerging as the hero for Nigeria.

The Chippa United shot-stopper saved two penalties during the shootout to secure Nigeria’s ninth third-place finish in AFCON history.

The 2025 tournament concluded with Senegal being crowned African champions for the second time, after edging hosts Morocco 1–0 in a tense final decided after extra time at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

The decisive moment came just three minutes into extra time when Pape Gueye fired a stunning left-footed strike from the edge of the area, silencing the packed stadium.

Prize money for the 2025 edition marked a significant increase, following reforms announced by CAF President Patrice Motsepe.

The champions, Senegal, received a record $10 million (N14.23 billion), an increase from the $7 million (N9.96 billion) awarded at the 2023 tournament.

Morocco, as runners-up, earned $4 million (N5.69 billion), while Nigeria collected $2.5 million (N3.56 billion) for finishing third. Fourth-placed Egypt received $1.3 million (N1.85 billion).

CAF also confirmed that quarter-finalists were awarded $800,000 (N1.14 billion) each, teams finishing third in their groups earned $700,000 (N996 million), while those placed fourth in their groups received $500,000 (N711 million).

The increased prize structure underscores CAF’s commitment to boosting the financial value of African football and rewarding strong performances at the continent’s flagship tournament.
