Nigeria’s Super Eagles began their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign on a positive note with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Tanzania on Tuesday in Fez.

The Super Eagles took the lead midway through the first half when defender Semi Ajayi rose highest to find the back of the net, giving Nigeria control of the contest before the break.

Tanzania responded strongly after the restart and were rewarded early in the second half as Mbombwa struck to restore parity, briefly putting Nigeria under pressure.

However, Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman quickly made the difference. Just moments after the equaliser, Lookman produced a clinical finish to score the winning goal, sealing all three points for the Super Eagles.

The result hands Nigeria a valuable start in their group as they look to build momentum in the tournament, while Tanzania will turn their attention to bouncing back in their next fixture.
