Mozambique head coach Chiquinho Conde has declared his team’s ambition to make history when they face Nigeria in the Round of 16 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Mambas will confront the Super Eagles on Monday, with the coach insisting that a victory over the three-time African champions would be a landmark achievement for Mozambican football.

Speaking ahead of the encounter, Conde emphasized the significance of the occasion and his players’ determination to rise to the challenge.

“We want to boldly write our names in the history of football in Mozambique,” he said. “Beating a big team like Nigeria will do that.”

Mozambique reached the knockout stage after an impressive group phase, but they face a stern test against a Nigerian side that has been one of the tournament’s standout teams.

The winner of Monday’s clash will advance to the quarterfinals, as Mozambique seek a famous upset and Nigeria aim to continue their quest for a fourth AFCON title.
