Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle has addressed the on-field incident involving Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman during Nigeria’s Round of 16 clash against Mozambique at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The incident occurred in the course of the encounter when tempers flared between the two forwards after Lookman declined to release a pass to the Galatasaray striker, leading to a brief but heated exchange on the pitch.

Speaking during his post-match press conference, Chelle played down the situation and insisted that internal matters within the team would be handled privately.

“This is a question about my management, and what happened on the pitch will stay in the group. I don’t need to tell anyone what happened,” Chelle said.

“I keep that for me, and everything that happened in the group stays in the group. We will see after that, and we will talk.”

Nigeria went on to secure qualification to the next round, with the coach’s comments suggesting that the incident has not affected team unity as the Super Eagles continue their AFCON campaign.
