Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has explained his decision to bar journalists and content creators from the team’s training camp during preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The France-born tactician has come under scrutiny in recent days after restricting media access to the Super Eagles’ camp, a move that sparked debate among stakeholders and fans.
Addressing the issue, Chelle said the decision was taken purely to protect his players and maintain focus ahead of crucial matches at the tournament.
“If I allow you journalists, media, content creators to always come in and then we lose, you’ll be the same people saying, ‘Eric is crazy, he opens the door every time,’” Chelle said.
“So everyone should stay calm. I did this to protect my players.”
According to the coach, limiting external distractions was necessary to help the squad concentrate fully on tactics, fitness, and mental preparation as they pursue Nigeria’s ambition of a strong showing at AFCON 2025.
The Super Eagles are currently competing in Morocco, with expectations high among Nigerian fans as the team targets continental glory.
Chelle’s comments are expected to ease tensions surrounding the media blackout, even as discussions continue over balancing transparency with competitive focus at major tournaments.
