The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has sanctioned the President of the Cameroonian Football Federation, Samuel Eto’o, over misconduct during the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final clash between Morocco and Cameroon in Rabat last weekend.
CAF confirmed the decision in a statement published on its official website in the early hours of Thursday.
According to the CAF Disciplinary Board, Eto’o was found guilty of breaching the principles of sportsmanship as stipulated under Article 2(3) of the CAF Statutes.
The Board also ruled that the former Barcelona and Chelsea striker violated Article 82 of the CAF Disciplinary Code for his conduct during the match.
Consequently, Eto’o has been handed a stadium ban for the next four official CAF matches in the context of the AFCON. In addition, he was fined USD 20,000.
Morocco had eliminated Cameroon from the competition after securing a 2–0 victory in the quarter-final encounter.
