The reason for the omission of the Kano Pillars forward Ahmed Musa from the invited players for the upcoming 2024 Championship of African Nations qualifier has been revealed.
Despite being one of the most inform players in the league, the name of the former Leicester City winger was missing from the list.
CHAN is designed for players who are citizens of their country and play in that country’s local league, while Musa meets both criteria but a specific regulation might have ruled him out.
According to Article 38 in chapter 16 of the CHAN regulations, only players with permanent contracts registered in a local club affiliated with their national association are eligible to participate.
The argument is that Musa’s short-term contract with Kano Pillars rules made him to be excluded from been included in the list of the CHAN team.
